Feasibility study in Visual Components, then a DOBOT palletising cell at the end of the line. Cycle time and layer pattern were proven before ordering, OPC UA feeds back into the existing data foundation.
Discuss a similar projectA food manufacturer operates several packaging lines with manual palletising at the end. Labour input is high and the outcome depends heavily on the shift. Management wanted to know, before committing to an investment, whether a cobot could achieve the required cycle time and whether the layer pattern was feasible across the existing product range.
We first carried out a feasibility study in Visual Components. The model included the cobot, the gripper unit, the palletising area and the preceding conveyor section. Cycle time, reach and collision-free movement were checked in the model before any quote was sought.
After the feasibility study the cell was built and commissioned. The OPC UA interface of the DOBOT cobot delivers cycle counts, fill level and status messages into the existing data foundation, over the same infrastructure already connecting the other production assets.
The cobot is from the DOBOT line for collaborative palletising cells. The selection was based on the cycle time verified in the 3D model and the available installation space. DOBOT is one of our partners in the DACH area, enabling short response times for service and spare parts.
From the first feasibility study to commissioning approximately three months passed. The largest portion was taken up by ordering, delivery and preparation of the mechanical integration. The actual on-site commissioning was completed within a few days.
