What a feasibility study clarifies

Many automation projects do not fail on the concept but on the implementation: collisions in the working envelope, cycle times that the robot datasheet promises but the real line cannot achieve, or interfaces that are only recognised as a problem after ordering.

A feasibility study addresses these questions before money flows into hardware or engineering. We simulate the planned solution in Visual Components, check cycle time and collision-free movement, and assess the technical risks of implementation in your specific plant.

The result is a written assessment: what is technically feasible, where the solution has limits and what adjustments may be needed. The study is the basis for the decision to request a quote or reconsider the approach.

How the feasibility study works

Requirements capture

Cycle time, grip geometry, material flow and interfaces are recorded. Whatever already exists as CAD or sketch is used as the starting point.

We model the planned plant and simulate the motion sequence. Collisions, reach and cycle times are verified in the model while changes still cost nothing.

Technical risk assessment

Interfaces to the controller, ERP and existing data systems are assessed. Technical risks are documented and solution options named.

You receive a feasibility study with simulation results, the technical assessment and a clear recommendation: feasible within these constraints, or not.

Frequently asked questions about the feasibility study

For which automation projects is a feasibility study appropriate?

Whenever the planned solution is spatially critical (cobots, palletising cells, assembly automation), when cycle times play a critical role, or when interfaces to existing systems are unclear. Common cases are palletising cells, feeding systems and camera inspection systems.

What is the difference from a potential analysis?

The potential analysis answers: which processes are suitable for automation? The feasibility study answers: does this specific solution work in this plant? Both can be used in sequence or independently.

What documentation is needed for a feasibility study?

Helpful inputs are a plant layout or sketch, cycle time and product range information, and details of existing controllers and data systems. If little exists, we start with an on-site survey.
